Went to White Rock over the weekend. It's a little town about an hr plus away from school with a beautiful beach and great food. It was such a pretty and peaceful place, extremely suitable for retirement. =)
The ride down was uneventful save for ck. HAHA, the guy got blasted by bird poop AGAIN! (twice in 2 weeks, someone should give the bird a prize). Being the superstitious people we are, we reminded ourselves to buy the lottery when we hit White Rock. The last time CK kena-ed bird shit, we won A DOLLAR! (we spent 7 bucks! haha) Exciting.
I think we have extremely good luck with the weather cos everytime we plan a big trip, it'd be sunny and bright, almost like it was not raining just cos higher powers didnt want to spoil our trip. =) With a weather forecast of 90% rain, we were more than prepared for the rain that has taken over by storm lately (no pun intended). However, what greeted us on Sat morning was the big, friendly SUN. Goodness me, it was actually WARM that day... And because of our amazingly good luck, we caught the gorgeous sunset. I think it was a first for many of us, to see the sun slowly dipping behind the mountains amidst the pale blue sky. It's one of those moments you think life is really beautiful. haha. =) REALLY!
We went for a crazy dinner at a beachside grill. Imagine fresh seafood (Fish and chips, calamari, honey orange chicken, seafood platter!) watching the sunset and a Canucks game. =) Think it was the most decadent dinner I had in a really long while, but it was so good. yum yum. Chris and Cass planned beach activities for us after dinner. They were dropping hints all day that we were gonna play dog and bone and Pepsi-Cola (duh... we really played this. Cass LURVES this) But no. These 2 ladies planned a really sweet surprise for us on the beach. We were made to close our eyes and sit around while they prepared stuff. By the time they were done, they had magically whipped out a cake complete with candles, and a little prezzie for each of us!! SO TOUCHED. =) these gals. *beams* Obviously, ck got "pritzels" (pretzels), joe got his Cinnamon Bun (which he promptly dropped on the sand, TWICE!), Selena and her coke, Dan with chocs, yx with his fav chips, and i got TIMBITS! love these gals.. More was planned, when we realised they bought FIREWORKS! GOODNESS ME! =) mini fireworks that i wont even dream of playing at home... So, while the gals stayed back, the guys tried to figure out how to light it to prevent any bodily harm done to any of us. Daniel the Brave then proceeded to light it. SO PRETTY. sigh... so pretty! We had sparklers later to end of the little beach party. These gals really thought of everything. =)
We hit back to our little place for the night. It was a little apartment, complete with kitchen and 1 bedroom meant for 2. Of course, we squeezed our way in there w/o paying the extra $20 they would normally charge for each extra person. =) It was such a nice, cosy place facing the sea. There, we had the craziest rounds of CraNium. FOUR rounds to be exact. IT was mad, but so much fun. Think we played all the way till 3am... we all managed to fall asleep finally after chris decided to stop talking. =)
Sigh... such a fun trip. =) Think we wont have many more to come, with all the work starting to pile up. We're all having different plans for the coming weekends so it's time to cherish whatever time we have left. =)
Enjoy the pictures! (Halloween is so happening here, people REALLY take it seriously!)
True Confections on Broadway - went for a little dessert treat after mid-terms with my peer group mates.
Pretty gals: Cass, Chris, Selena, Me
Gorgeous White Rock Sunset
Pumpkin-carving competition
Us at the delightful apartment by the beach.
Pretty selena
Us and the sparklers
Halloween night downtown won't be complete without him...BATMAN!
Death. He was really scary.
Us and the SWAT team. A cute guy, finally. =) (Just see how happy the girls look)
Actually, there were plenty more costumes. From Hitler, to Paris Hilton, Brad Pitt, Willy Wonka, BARBIE (complete with own movable box), the muppets, to Wonderwoman... Pretty much any and everything u can think of. It was a totally cool night. =)

right about 5.45am now. Just finished watching American History X after a lot of bugging by Daniel. Man, it was... mind-boggling, thought-provoking and such a powerful movie all at the same time. "We have too little time to hate. Hate only makes us more pissed off." - WOW. I was never one to speak out on stuff like prejudice and discrimination, but it seems like this movie really got me there. All the classes I'm doing this sem either talk about prejudice, discrimination, the need for emancipation, equality, deviance and whatnot as well. Really got me thinking... haha. Go watch it. it's GOOD.
On a lighter note, we just went to PLAYLAND, PNE just now. Although it was raining, we were pretty much determined to have a good time. Most of the gang just finished mid-terms this week as well, so the mood was really good. (Just ask yx, who was behaving like a little excited boy the whole night. =) haha) The roller-coasters were surprisingly good for a small park and we really had a good time. Even first-timers like Daniel enjoyed it, although he was screaming ALL the time. haha... CK was probably the funniest cos he would scream, take a breath, then scream again. haha =) If you're ever there, ride the wooden coaster! Looks can really be deceiving, cos that proved to be the best one of the night. Lots of ups and downs and according to daniel's gf, it has the most "air-time" in the world. (meaning you get lifted off your seat the longest!) NICE.
The haunted houses were cool too, although the queues got a bit long after a while. yx was hilarious, cos he's so brave with the coasters, but so ham with these haunted thingies. (God is fair!) haha. But they were fun cos you'd walk around a maze in the haunted house waiting to get scared by actors in bloody costumes. Think all of us had a good time tonight, even the rain didnt dampen our spirits. =)
We actually wanted to go for sushi supper buffet after that, but we couldnt find a place that was open and it was freaking cold, so as a last resort, we settled for PIZZA!. Really cheap, really good. We also spent more than an hour waiting, running after, and waiting for the bus before we decided to hop onto cabs and get home. Think we all got home about 2am after all the waiting, talking nonsense at the bus-stop, singing, and bitching. =) we like.
well then, i'll just be heading off to bed... be up in 5 hrs for our little weekend trip to white rock! Pictures up when i can find them! =) Have i mentioned I REALLY LIKE DANIEL's IPOD?... go look at it... SO PRWEEETY!

While waiting for my hair to dry on this lovely night (it's about 4am), i shall update my blog!
I FINISHED MIDTERMS. Or does everyone know that already? =) feels incredible. (cant believe i'm actually mugging harder here than back home.) I got up really late anyway today (too late to say cos parents reading) cos i've been sleeping really late the past fews days (again, parents reading). Best news of the day was that even though i woke up late, my classes were either CANCELLED or OPTIONAL. *beams* so in fact, i didnt miss much at all =) But as a result of the strike, i missed lunch cos the cafe grill was closed and all the burgers they prepared beforehand weren't enough to satisfy the insatiable appetite of the meat-loving college kids here. sigh... i was prepared to walk to Tim Hortons, but again, the queue was astronomically long - stretching almost outside the store. sigh... i could without lunch i guess. =P
Spent a good part of the afternoon talking to a friend back home. Take care ya... dont want anything to happen to you =) Seems like many things are happening back home and i'm not really there. I dont feel guilty but i'd like to be there, for support, for action and just to participate i guess. My dragonboat team is disintegrating. Don't even know the current status, other than the people i'm closer to (and make me happy rowing) have left. Rowing was and will always be about making friends and rowing AS ONE for me. So if it doesnt happen with this current team, then there's no point staying. Just hope you guys find yourself a good new team, and remind them to keep a space for me! =) miss you all...
Highlight of the day - ICE SKATING! my goodness, i'm going to do this every week till i perfect it. it's so so fun. i think i should try to fall... the guys do so well cos they are so garang. i probably held onto the railings all the way till the last 20 mins (even though ck glared at me everytime i did it cos he's so daring and it worked. He does it so well now and it's probably his first try!) =) When i get home, i'll be a skate queen! =) watch out. haha
We played more CRAMIUM! Goodness... it's super addictive, especially when you win! hahaha =) loads of fun all thanks to ck who spent $37 on it. I now realise i can spell "whimsical" backwards, yx can do charades damn well, joe can draw (eyes open and close), selena knows the exciting history of canada and marilyn just about gets everything else =) we're good.
i leave you with pictures of Victoria, capital of vancouver, ( i think the order should be something like: Parliament House at night, FISH AND CHIPS!!!, the ferry we took over, Jehova's Witness - it's banned back home and Parliament House by day)
chris' birthday party (in which she claims she didnt have any idea of and thus her fugly self)
a day out shopping at metrotown (HUGE shopping mall - about 4 times Suntec i think) with the guys trying on weird LADIES winter jackets... haha (don't kill me joe...)
all the notices around school informing us about the strike today - the school was so empty...
AND, this new exciting building school - the Health Science Center!
Looks familiar? Of course, that's just the main arts library! Hollywood is in town! We've just become the set for the latest Al Pacino blockbuster titled "88 minutes". People love filming here cos the production costs are so much cheaper. Now you know... =)

my lecturer just informed us that there may be a general strike in on friday and if it involves the university as well, then she'll not be coming to class! How exciting is that?!... She'll be involved even though the uni sent out an email informing that any lecturer getting involved will have their pay docked. It's so unheard of back home... The teachers' strike has been going on for a couple of weeks now with no sign of an agreement or anything in the near future since the government had already declared it illegal. So, if there is indeed a general strike on Friday (meaning no buses running, no sky trains etc etc), then i presume i'll have NO CLASSES. =) I need a break. 3 mid terms in 4 days is enough to kill anyone, seriously screw up sleeping patterns and make anyone very moody and irritable. STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE! =)

i have 3 mid terms to mug for and i'm still typing this. =) what to do, need to update the people at home. +)
Went to the "app-y festival" (APPLE festival) today with the gang sans daniel cos they guy was playing soccer with his weirdly-named team. There was this busker there playing the *gasp* HARP! My goodness me... you would never ever find a harp back home, much less someone busking with it. I was so captivated and i told myself my kids MUST learn how to play it in the future. It felt almost fairy-talish =)
We also went to an old folks' home today somewhere off chinatown. Felt really good to be doing something like that even in vancouver. Got me thinking as well. Why am i doing community service in here, when i'm not seriously active back home. Time for some serious reflection and action when i get home i guess. It was so much fun playing and laughing with all the gong-gongs and po-pos, even though there was a language problem. I can speak cantonese, but my po-po was speaking a unknown dialect. Plus, she was already 94 (that i would make out), so she was mumbling. I had a great time though... didnt regret my trip down at all even though i've always thought working with the elderly was tough. Guess it's my lucky first try. Joe felt right at home too, happily rattling off in cantonese with everyone... haha. He must have felt so good to be speaking Cantonese again after all the nonsense with us. I think we're all becoming more HK-ish. I dont even want to start talking about our acquiring of the HK accent and intonation. Dont ever get chris started!
Highlight of the day: CK and his bird-shit incident... haha. Freaking hilarious, cos he didnt even realise it till cass told him. And it was across his face, bag strap and bag. The bird must have been flying in a really weird direction.
Highlight of the day 2: YX and his oh-so-dashing combo today. The guy actually dressed up so nicely today all the gals were dying to take photos with him. You should do this more often dude. Amazing what some gel and a leather jacket can do to a person. =)
Highlight of the day 3: SELENA'S AUNT"S HOUSE AND DINNER! my goodness me, we deprived kids finally had a good, hearty home-cooked meal for the first time since we got here! (For me it was the first... for some people who love to self-invite, it'd be nothing new =) We had fried mee siam, curry chicken and decently cooked veg which actually tasted like what veg should taste! I think we stuffed ourselves silly. Plus, Selena had really nice relatives who were talking to us all the time... i felt so at home... =) I think we made too much noise playing CRAMIUM at their place, but we had a really good time. =) So much for Joe's Uno. haha...
OK... enough from me...i so desperately NEED to mug. Let's hope YX's coffee can work wonders. +) I'm really awake now though... just caught my parents online. I'm one happy girl. =)

Victoria rocks! More like, my crazy friends made victoria rock =)... My stomach still hurts from too much laughing, contributed solely by CHRISTINE CHEN (and in some sense, JOE) and her (their) antics. There were so many things that happened in the last 2 days that i dont even know where to start blogging. I just need to warn everyone:
1. UNO is a really probably the best/most stressful card game on earth =) ("Hey WeiXXXX~!")
2. Cantonese is not the easiest language to learn. Thai is easier... (ask Chris... or JOE!)
3. "Cin-na-m-on bUNS" and "cho-co-la-te bARS" can actually cause nightmares!
4. NEVER SHOP WITH GALS WHO HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED OF SHOPPING FOR ONE MONTH. SCARY!
5. Rocky Road Turkish Coffee ice-cream is addictive... EVEN SCARIER.
6. The Hong Kong accent is addictive too! (just ask YX!!)
7. Too much laughing can REALLY give you sore jaws and a tummy ache.
8. Shaking vending machines for an free packet of chips dont work. Brains however, make things much easier... haha (We
got 6 packs(!) of chips for the price of 5 using very simple common sense! *VERY cheap thrill*)
9. Only go out with crazy people (read: my friends) if you need a lot of fun, excitement and a little madness in your life! =)
Photos after i've mugged for my 3(!) mid terms, researched for 1 term paper proposal and booked hostels for Vegas, LA NY and Toronto.... You'll see them before I get back home if you're lucky. =)

YEAH! Korean friend cooked dinner for me and this German gal (on the same longboat team). I MISS HOME-COOKED FOOD! =P That includes everything that my mum (once in a blue blue moon cooks), and my grandma's cooking... everything she cooks is amazing. I miss...i want! haha.... but i'll be contented... home cooked meal plus salad plus ice cream plus lots of girl talk and debates about international issues (we are intellectuals remember) makes one really satisfying night. =) Thanks Yuna and Luci! BUT, my psyc mid term is so screwed... so screwed... sigh, anyone knows how to keep awake the whole night and still be sane enough to take the exam tmr?.... =(

Fall is here, and the whole environment changes. The leaves are turning yellow and reddish, the skies are cloud-ier, the rain's more frequent... etc. The list goes on, but for some reason, it adds on to the charm this place has. It's really lovely to be walking to class every morning looking at the changes in the scenery.
Today was also the Day of the Longboat. To cut the long story short, we had a international team of 12 of which only 5 showed up. We were pretty stressed cos we all wanted to row and they needed a minimum of EIGHT to row. And so, we did the only thing possible to people in desperate situations. 2 mins before our race started, we yelled out for anyone who wanted to row with us... lo and behold, we managed to find 3 kind souls who would do that. The morale was really high and we had so much fun. Most importantly, we didnt finish last! (which was an achievement considering every other team had 10 rowers) =) I just got back from a drink with these guys... Good stuff there, finally making a few more friends. =)
As always, Saturdays are never spent in hall and this week we decided on surprise surprise, North Vancouver again. =) We took almost 2 hours to get to Horseshow Bay, which is not a tourist spot unless you're taking a ferry to Victoria. The highlight for me was Lighthouse Park. It was so comfortable there... In here, it's almost like you can sit anywhere and there's always a magnificant view presented. =) I'm getting so comfortable with this group of friends... =) we rock.
