just got home from a long night of... SALSA =) I'm actually beginning to feel that my once-a-week salsa lesson cum practice at union is not enough. Probably need to borrow a salsa-mate's place to practise more. salsa salsa =)
met johnny before that for some catching-up over dinner at this little xiao long bao place near maxwell mkt. very nice, the food and the company. thanks for the gift dude! we are going to watch that exciting non-political play together k! =)
i'm having a lot of fun with dragonboat as well. somehow, when u know you're preparing for a race, EVERYONE gets all serious and focused. It makes the team bond a lot better and a lot faster. It's really heartening when people actually talk about "A Family A Team". woohoo =) i think it's great that we're gonna be training twice a week now. TWICE the fun, laughter, pain but ultimate joy. =)

I've thought long and hard how to write these few posts (thus explaining the lack of updates.. haha). I figured a "blow-by-blow" account would justify it most cos that was how I finally realised that more people than I'd ever expected actually bothered enough about me to make me very happy on my 21st =) thank you all.

3 june - the lovely dinner I wrote about that my parents organised for me. It was a lot of laughter, love and A LOT of wine going around. =)

4 june - the equally lovely chili-pepper crab feast from my cousin miriam. Well worth the 50 min queue. It was extra sweet cos she actually REMEMBERED my birthday! woohoo! =) and the crabs were seriously delicious. Joo Chiat Place... if you like crabs, you neeeeed to try that place. =)

6 june - first birthday sms from jing (haha... though the date was wrong, my birthday IS on the 7th). I realised she was not the only one mixing it up when my SISTER, my SISTER gave me my present thinking it was the 7th already. hahahaha. BOOBOO!! but very lovely. chris, cass, joe - remember the hershey's swoops we got in this ulu supermart in newyork? the pringles-shaped chocolates we were eating at the niagara hostel? my sis managed to find it here!! for 3 times the price i think. haha =) love love love her!

6 june (close to midnight) - this was when the real fun started. It WAS traumatising for me, in case you were wondering. i was casually messaging a friend when all the birthday smses [johnny and that lovely corinne may birthday song, pretty and sweet lay with her 2am sms =) and yq's grettings] and msn greetings [yes you, chen christine! =)] started coming in. And yes yq, you were the first one to call as well! woohoo! =) Thank you all for even remembering. =) Now, this particular friend i was messaging turned out to be one of the two "groups" of people who decided to come down all the way to my house to wish me happy birthday. As it turned out, one group was in cahoots with my family to surprise me by getting me out of the house somehow and sneaking into my room to decorate it with lovely tealights and a cake. They even roped in extras like someone's brother and a very special friend from OZ to help. haha. 30 mins into my 21st birthday, these people managed to get me crying. The other friend came alone, totally unexpected till he called to ask for my address. He arrived with very very weird stuff... but that thought and gesture was worth everything. I was expecting a perfectly normal night, but they managed to make it so special for me...

To judy and yi, I dont really even know what to say except I really think with you two around, nothing very wrong can ever happen to me cos you two will always be there. It's been close to 9 years but nothing's changed. What you all did made me feel so special, so loved, so blessed and so happy. I never did expect it but you don't know how happy you all made me. I love the scrapbook (nevermind all the ugly and unglam pictures of me) and i love the cake. I love you two... i really do and i appreciate every little think you all have done for me and all the time we've spent together. Thanks for everything and all the sleepless nights. Thanks for all the effort coordinating the whole "experience" and thanks for even bothering to do so much in the first place. It really means the world to me. We couldn't make it for "next year, next month" but that night sure felt like it. Like what I said, that in itself was worth getting older for. Love you two. *muaks* =)

To derrick, YOU ROCK!! haha... i saved the msn conversation i actually had with "your sister" cos it's so funny thinking back about it now. Thanks for volunteering to be part of the conspiracy. According to yi, you were the most crucial part in the whole operation! haha =)

To liwei, you rock too. I have nothing to say. hahaha... I'm so impressed they actually got you to call! hahaha =) thanks for calling leh... learn to lie better ok =) take care in aussie! we need to mahjong again! =)

To jon, you are the f**king (I AM 21 now, i can officially swear) craziest guy i know. It was mad when you called to say you were on the cab coming simply cos I never thought that would ever happen. You made me a very happy girl tonight. I'm over the moon you actually came all the way and I'm supremely touched you bothered. It's weird cos I've known you the longest and it's amazing we're still in touch after so long. A peach tart and rootbeer measures up to any mouth-watering cake and good wine, anytime. =) Thank YOU. really.

7 june - more messages [all the way from shanghai, from people i havent heard from in a long while like yen2, to people i just met a week ago like sel, mary and dan! thank you all again! i dont think i've felt this loved in a loooooong looooong time. haha =)

7 june - met team B! Settlers was fun, especially that stupid jungle game we played last. Thank you all for the present. I love it. =) (it IS 18 cows and counting) thank you all for coming all the way down to buona vista to accommodate me =) It’s been less than a yr, but I feel our friendship has come a long way. I really think something clicked between between all of us and i am very thankful to have you all in my life. I never once thought big groups would make it but i have been proven wrong. The group is getting bigger but it also means there's more love going around! love u guys, everysingleone of you and I hope we’ll hang onto this friendship for a really long time to come. =)

7 june - Clubbing was fun but the drinking was not. Puked once.. think I’ve finally realized my limits. Gonna swear off drinking for a while now. MOS and Dbl O were fun places but more importantly, I had the greatest company la. =) Left about 2.30, reached home about 3. And there on my bed lay a PADDLE, new in plastic with the new urban male tag. My first thoughts were my parents bought them for m but yi came online and I told her about the paddle. It was then I found out the paddle is a gift from them!!!!! WTH WTH WTH!!! Yirang had to drop by my house when we were all partying so that I would get a surprise when i got home. As if the previous night wasn’t’ enough.. they had to buy me the one thing that I seriously wanted. MY OWN PADDLE. These gals… what do I do without them? REALLY… I was at such a loss for words….. I want to die… haha… and then I think, what have I done to deserve such friends… and I cant come up with anything. Sigh I love them, to bits… seriously.
To ms bai, you're the one who intro-ed me to rowing (which has already become as impt as my other loves), you're the one i can crap with forever and still have more to talk about. We may not meet as often as we like but i hope you know you're so very important to me. You've taught me alot just by living life the way you do. Thanks for everything again ya. =) love love love you!

8 june - Met up with a different group of girls. Don't think i've really talked about them much. These girls are equally important to me. They were the ones who made my sec school days more bearable cos of our common love for drama, theatre, bad-mouthing the school, the crazy things we did and all the memories we had. [Think people pretending (hoping) she was Mrs Nick Carter, rushing 8 productions in a year, handling all the nonsense from the school cos we were an ENGLISH drama society in a well, CHINESE school and many "shared experiences" recently. haha] The gals were amazing… we met and decided to go for bbq stingray after visiting the very crowded Molly Malone and realizing we probably wont get seats. Dinner was good, albeit different. We wandered aimlessly for a dessert place and finally ended up at max brenners for our fav choc ice-cream. The walk from boat quay to esplanade was packed with gossips, photo-taking moments and a certain someone needing to ease herself very urgently. =) My present was lovely. It’s one of those things I’ve been eyeing for a really long time but never got round to buying cos I thought it was insane to be spending that kinda moolah on something like that. These gals… bought me like a mini-collection of the prettiest notebooks and files from Prints. Woohoo! =) love like mad. The night went onto some other stuff but I think we all did what we did with heavy hearts. Oh well. Till 22nd June k! =) thanks so much gals… you all have been in 8 of my 21 years and I think we only have more to look forward to. Let’s keep our faith and friendship till the very end. =) (you all know what i mean...)

To yq, hahaha... i STILL cannot believe our 5am conversation that night. and i STILL cannot believe we have so much to talk about after saying so much already. I will have nightmares of you soon so luckily you found yourself a job. =) (that pays 2 times more than me!) You have always managed to make me happy and I thank you for that. I still think you're the only person who i can talk THIS much nonsense to, cos you understand it anyway. =) It's probably the weirdest friendship I have but I treasure it more than I care to mention (especially since I'm such a passive person who NEVER makes the first move to call..haha). SO, thank you again. =) Till wed ya! =)

to my parents, you have given me 21 years of utmost care and concern. Thank you both for always supporting me in whatever i take on, even if it may not always be what you'd hope i'd do. Thank you for creating the lovely home that I'd always feel safe to come back to because this is where no one judges me and I can truly be myself. Thank you for always being there, for all the worrying, nagging, teachings and encouragement. I hope i've grown into the person you'd want me to be. Most of all, thank you for 21 years of love. i love you all too. =)

to my sis, you are the one who knows all my secrets, the one whom i feel the most comfortable talking to, the one who gives me the best advice with regards to my non-existent fashion sense and the one darling sister i love the most. you have shown me how a girl can dream and how these dreams can and do come true. May you be dreaming always because they are what make you the most special and adorable in my eyes. *muaks*

30 mins into my 21st, and some people actually managed to make me cry cos these people were crazy enough to do the sweetest things ever that I thought no one would ever do for me. What would I do without them? seriously, what would I do without them? =)

WOAH!!!... it's been almost a week since I've been here. i'm freaking excited after learning that my parents actually subscribed to the world cup live matches thingy on cable. Apparently, they did it WAAAAAAY before starhub started their massive promos about the world cup package. I'm impressed. =) The last week was basically spent working from home and doing fieldwork since I didnt have to report to the office. In the words of others, i was slacking/nua-ing/rotting/bumming/all of the above. =) In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, i did manage to catch up with chris, pretty and sweet lay, yx & hy and dan for BADMINTON! the key point here being, we played at TAMPINES sports hall. I live in JURONG. i think that in itself warrants a medal of sorts... what to do? Group Above Self, or GAS for short. haha... it's been punctuating our msn conversations alot lately. =)

Rowing was really fun today. Every 5 mins you row gets you 5 mins of rest. By the 6th set, i think we were all dead... but we held on somehow, to finish that set. I think that's why i lurve rowing. =) No one stops till we're done, and having said that, there is nothing we can't do. =) i love.

Had a big family dinner at night to celebrate my 21st. Can't believe i'm gonna turn 21... i say "going to" cos it's not the actual day and i'm gonna deny it all the way till the 7th. haha. But the dinner was lovely. I cant even imagine why i was grumbling and not wanting a dinner in the first place. =) It did help that my parents and sis bought me a 2kg LANA cake, which is just about the most delectable chocolate sponge cake on this side of the globe. I've always said I'm a blessed girl and tonight I understood why again. =) I have an amazing family who did everything for me although i was grumbling half the time and they made sure i enjoyed myself =) I love my uncles and aunties whose main aim for the night was to get me to finish my wine, then pour me more. =) enjoy the pictures...
